Holiday in Donegal
I chickened out from using my metal detector the garrett 550 GTAX on my recent holidays in Donegal. It seems the Guardai are prone to locking anyone up that they find metal detecting or even in possession thereof in the great Irish Republic. Talk about burying your head in the sand, but the irish Goverment have effectively banned the hobby outright.........

Dont know where that quote comes from , sounds a bit hillbilly, dont even right know what hillbilly means..
Anyway my metal detector the garrett GTAX 550, sounds like a motor bike - doesn't it, arrived as promised on Friday and me and Chrissie soon had it outside detecting coins, that I had casually left there earlier - Chrissie and Ellen both found loads of them, but chrissie then asked me out of the blue if I had hidden them!
Here is a brief video of Chrissie finding a 2 pence coin in our garden.

I bought my first Metal Detector

I hope to have it in a few days, got it second hand on eBay for about half the new price, cant wait, need to get a licence to use it in NI

Garrett Ace 250
Here is the Garrett Ace 250, the best in the £100-200 pound price range.
This was my initial choice, but I am not ready to buy until I look at the better ones first! Greedy already!

Metal detecting for fun and profit
This is my new hobby, one of many I admit, and the first new one for quite a while, and I am very excited about it!
Step one is to research to find out all about it, quite a treasure hunt itself, to find the best metal detectors, the best forum, other blogs, you tube videos, the law (boring but necessary) etc etc.
Anyway I will be passing on what I learn on my journey in this blog and already the name Garrett is coming up as perhaps the best, and of course there are models in everyone's price range, but don't you always want the best? I have looked at the best value for money models in the Garrett range - check it out,

and I am fairly sure I will buy from this list.
My time limit is the next week as I want to have it to take on holidays and intend to try to find my very first treasure in the early mornings while my family sleep!
